Sony’s latest full-frame mirrorless camera, the Sony A7 III, is now officially available in Malaysia. Designed as a flexible, all-rounded enthusiast/prosumer mirrorless camera, the Sony A7 III packs a huge amount of tech in its tiny 650g mirrorless body.
From the specs sheet alone, the Sony A7 III is a huge step up from its predecessor, the A7 II. The 24.2MP Exmor R sensor is a newly-developed model, and inherits the super-fast autofocus system as the speedy Sony A9 flagship mirrorless camera. It covers 93% of the frame with 693 phase detect AF points and 425 contrast AF points. There’s also a new Eye AF technlogy that actively tracks a subjects eyes in real-time, constantly locking focus on the eyes for accurate AF lock at all times for portrait photography.
On top of that, the ISO range of 100-51200 and 15-stop dynamic range at low sensitivities, coupled with the in-body 5-axis image stabilisation offers great performance in low light. The A7 III also features 4K recording at 24p when taken from a 6K sensor region. For high dynamic footage, the A7 III offers both S-Log2 and S-Log3 gamma curves; while there is the Hybrid Log Gamma curve profile for immediate playback on HDR displays.
With the new ‘Front End LSI’ pre-processor from the A7R III, the new A7 III shares many of the speedy capture modes. This includes the 10fps shooting with Continous AF on, as well as a large 177 JPEG buffer for uninterrupted shooting. Long shooting time is also enabled by the new NP-FZ100 battery that delivers 710 shots per charge, which Sony claims is the longest in the mirrorless camera market.
Finally, Sony also updates the A7 III with some interesting forward thinking connectivity options. Dual SD card slots make an appearance here, with one slot supporting the new UHS-II format. There is also a USB 3.1 Type C port, offering lightning-fast transfer speeds. The XGA OLED Tru-Finder offers high-speed and lag-free composition, while Wi-Fi and NFC are standard staples for the A7 series.
The Sony A7 III will be available this month onwards nationwide, with a price of RM8999 for the body only.
