Illegear has introduced an interesting new gaming laptop, one that implements a bezel-less display. The Illegear Onyx, features an 15.6-inch Infinivision display mounted on a thin chassis. What was curiously missing from the announcement is any mention of Max-Q technology.
Considering the timing of the announcement, it should come as no surprise that the Illegear Onyx comes fitted with the new Coffee Lake-H range of processors. The two base models are fitted with either an Intel Core i7-8570H or an i5-8300H. These are paired with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 and GTX 1050 Ti respectively.
These base models also feature 8GB RAM, a 1TB HDD, and a 240GB M.2 SSD. Illegear is also offering upgrades that will see the memory bumped up to 32GB at maximum, and the internal storage can be expanded through the additional M.2 PCIe slot. The HDD can also be swapped out for storage up to 4TB.
Use of the Infinivision display has allowed Illegear to squeeze the 15.6-inch display into a 14-inch chassis. Which is par for the course on all laptops that adopt the bezel-less design philosophy. It’s also reasonably thin and light, weighing in at 1.95kg with a thickness of 19.9mm.
Not to forget, the Onyx is also equipped with a Geneswitch mechanical keyboard which also comes with customizable RGB backlight as well as N-key rollover, and anti-ghosting features.
The Core i7-8570H version of the Illegear Onyx with GeForce GTX 1060 graphics will cost RM6899, while the model with Core i7 and GTX 1050 Ti combo is priced at RM5999. The laptop’s price can go even lower at RM5499 with the combination of Core i5-8300H and GTX 1050 Ti.
