Only few months to go before FIFA World Cup takes place once again and it is about time for Astro which is the official broadcaster for the tournament in Malaysia to kick off a campaign for it. However, the coverage for massive sporting event will not be limited to Astro customers alone though as the company has introduced World Cup passes that are meant for non-subscribers.
That being said, the broadcast will not be delivered to TV screen as per Astro’s standard experience though. Instead, these World Cup passes are meant for viewing through the Astro GO app which is available for Android and iOS devices as well as web browser.
For a one-time payment of RM 120*, the World Cup Channel Pass allows users to watch all 64 live matches from FIFA World Cup 2018 on Astro GO platform. Pass holders are also able to watch other contents that are shown on the two dedicated World Cup channels throughout the duration of the event.
Astro will also be introducing additional World Cup passes for those prefer to pay only for specific matches. For example, the Match Pass will provide access to one live match while the Group Pass allows pass holders to watch live matches within the group of their choice.
There is also the Knockout Stage Pass for those who want to watch live matches from Round of 16 onwards until Finals. Available from 7 June onwards, the price for these specialized viewing passes were not revealed during Astro’s launch event earlier today though.
As for NJOI Prepaid customers as well as Astro viewers that didn’t subscribe to the Sports Pack, they are able to catch FIFA World Cup by purchasing their own World Cup Channel Pass for RM 100*. Alongside the live matches that are shown on their TV screen and Astro GO, they will also able to access them through Stadium Astro app which also include highlights in multi-angle cams and real-time stats.
Interestingly, Astro stated that the multi-angle highlights will be apparently generated within 2 minutes from the time they took place. In addition to that, the pass holders will receive the ability to watch live matches in virtual reality space on a separate Stadium Astro VR app.
Both of these features are exclusive to Astro and NJOI customers which means that they will not be available to those who subscribed the stand-alone World Cup Channel Passes for Astro GO. For further info regarding FIFA World Cup 2018 offerings on Astro, head on to its official website right here.
