Intel might just be getting ready to present a new Coffee Lake-S CPU to the world of tech, and if the post by the serial leaker site VideoCardz is to be believed, the new and yet-to-be released CPU will be sporting up to 8-cores and 16-threads.
According to a listing on 3DMark database, the supposedly new 8-cores CPU was shown to feature the same base and boost clock speed of 2.2GHz. Considering the clock speed that Intel’s current 6-cores, 12-threads Core i7-8700k can achieve, it is very unlikely that these numbers are final.
Since the motherboard that was listed in the database is likely an engineering sample, the exact chipset that was used with the chip is not yet known for the time being. That being said, it might be possible that the processor was paired with the upcoming Z390 chipset which has been floating around through leaked roadmaps for the past few months.
All in all, this is a sign that the chip maker seeks to go head-to-head with AMD’s current top-of-the-line Ryzen 7 CPU, which feature the same number of cores, albeit at a more affordable price. If what shown above is true, things are going to get interesting very soon.
