Google has changed the name of Android Wear to Wear OS; a move that is surprising to say the least. This dropping of the Android brand is supposedly reflect a different approach to selling smartwatchs. Since not all Android Wear users happen to use Android powered smartphones.
According to the announcement, one out of three Android Wear customers are also using an iPhone. A statistic that got Google to introduce “a new name that better reflects our technology, vision, and most important of all—the people who wear our watches.”
That said, there’s no real change to the software itself. The only thing that’s different is that there is a new logo and many of us will have to get used to the new name. Users will begin seeing the new branding on their smartphones and smartwatches over next few weeks.
