Spotify is testing built-in voice functions in its app. Users can already use other voice assistants such as Google Assistant, Bixby or Siri to play songs on Spotify. Having it natively, however, should translate to a better user experience in the long run.
TechCrunch confirmed the existence of the voice control feature shortly after being alerted to it by Twitter user Hunter Owens. Right now the voice search is enabled only for a small subset of users. The alpha-test stage are usually used to figure out features that works, major bugs or other major features that needs to be added or fixed.

With the voice search function, logically this could lead to the development of a voice-assisted speaker, like the Google Voice or Amazon Echo. However the two mentioned speakers are already Spotify compatible. Spotify needs to present a compelling reason why users should get its speakers if it ever becomes a reality.
