WhatsApp has extended the time frame in which you can delete your sent message to one hour. To be precise, it’s one hour, eight minutes, and 16 seconds, according to a tweet by WABetaInfo.
The time extension is a generous one compared to seven minutes when it was first implemented back in October. The change to the message deletion function was added quietly though, and to be frank, it seems a bit odd as to why the allotted timeframe is so specific.
A new WhatsApp for iOS update (2.18.31) is available on AppStore.
It is a bug fixes update, but it has the new “Delete for everyone” limit, that’s 1 hour, 8 minutes and 16 seconds.— WABetaInfo (@WABetaInfo) March 8, 2018
In hindsight, it is also possible that WhatsApp is testing out a new feature that could allow users to send time-limited messages which is something that already available on other messaging apps such as Telegram.
Nevertheless, having a grace period of one hour can prove beneficial especially to those who want to erase past messages that may be misconstrued or incriminating.
