Fortnite Battle Royale is headed to mobile devices, starting with iOS within the next few days. More importantly, it will be one of the few games to allow cross platform play between consoles, PC, and mobile. This may not be a terribly good idea for an FPS, but people have been asking for the feature.
Developer Epic Games has announced that the cross platform play will cover PlayStation 4, PC, iOS, and Android. No such luck for XBox One, but that’s likely something to do with the business dealings between the console owners. If anything, we’re lucky to even see this sort of thing on the PS4.
That in mind, PC players will likely maintain an edge over the competition. It’s not exactly a fair fight to pit touchscreen input against the precision of keyboard and mouse.
There are no screenshots or explanation about how the game will feel on mobile, but Epic Games will be rolling out the first round of email invites on 12 March (which should be 13 March for us). This will first go out for the iOS app, with the Android version “coming in the next few months”.
