Malaysian Apple reseller and service centre Machines is now offering a same day battery replacement for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone SE. Note that it doesn’t apply to newer iPhones, as this is part of the discounted programme ordered by Apple.
It would seem that Machines has streamlined the replacement process to get it down in four hours. However, this can only be done if the iPhone is submitted before 3pm, or it will have to be an overnight job. Presumably because Machines employees also need to go home at some point.
There are also a couple of additional caveats to this offer. The most important being related to the availability of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s batteries. Apple has been struggling to restart production of these particular power cells, which has resulted in a global shortage.
As such, Machines is estimating that replacement batteries for these two iPhones will take at least two weeks to arrive in Malaysia. The Apple authorised service provider says that it expects the next batch to arrive some time in late March or early April.
This offer is part of Apple’s programme to correct a much maligned decision from the company to throttle performance in order to preserve battery life. Cupertino mandated that all authorised service centres offer a discounted price on battery replacements; which is why owners only have to pay RM129 to get a new battery on their iPhone (provided it meets the eligibility requirements).
