Huawei has announced that the Android 8.0 Oreo beta for the Nova 2i is now open for Malaysians to join. This open beta is meant to test Huawei’s EMUI 8.0 variant of the operating system ahead of a global launch; which also means that it may not yet be stable.
EMUI 8.0 was originally released with the Huawei Mate 10 late last year, and the company had promised to extend the OS update to a range of other devices. These include the Nova 2, Nova 2 Plus, Nova Youth Edition, Mate 8, P9, and P9 Plus. From the announcement, it looks like the rollout is working its way up from the budget end of the spectrum.
The Nova 2i impressed by being the first budget phone to include an 18:9 ratio display. Especially since the price drop earlier this year.
Joining the open beta simply requires the user to download and launch the beta test app. Those looking to participate in the test will need a Huawei ID account, as the app will prompt the user to login before installing the test operating system. Users can also leave the beta at any time by signing out through the beta app.
Huawei hasn’t indicate how long this open beta will last, although most of these programmes rarely go on for longer than a month. Which indicates that the public release of EMUI 8.0 for the Nova 2i is approaching.
