During its Q4 2017 financial briefing earlier this week, TM has revealed it will be launching a new broadband service later this year. The new service is apparently aimed to provide broadband services to areas that have not yet been reached by fibre network, as well as to those who prefer not to be tied up by the standard long-term contract under UniFi’s fixed service.
Hence, the target customers for this upcoming service will include younger consumers and home renters. According to Shazalli Ramly, the Managing Director and Group CEO of TM, the service will be delivered through a device that he has dubbed the “magic box“.
Utilizing TM’s existing copper lines, the box apparently can be moved from one house to another. With a minimum speed of 10Mbps, the roll out is scheduled to take place by July this year.
All in all, this is a rather intriguing revelation by the chief of TM especially given the fact that there are quite a number of details regarding the service that are still under wraps. This is definitely something that we are going to keep a close look as we get closer to its scheduled launch date.
