Less than a week after its global launch, you can now pre-order the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ in Malaysia. Pre-orders go live at 10am today across several channels, from Samsung’s own website to popular e-commerce platforms like Lazada and Shopee.
To recap, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ are minor refreshes to what was one of the best smartphones from 2017. The big upgrades here come in the new camera: the Galaxy S9 features a variable aperture camera, which switches between f/1.5 and f/2.4 depending on the lighting conditions. It can also record 960fps footage in the new Super Slow Motion mode.
In addition, the larger Galaxy S9+ has two rear cameras, both with optical image stabilisation. This allows for Live Focus support on the larger Galaxy S9+, while the Galaxy S9 makes do with just one rear camera sensor.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 will retail for RM3299, while the Galaxy S9+ will retail for RM3799 (64GB), RM3999 (128GB), and RM4299 (256GB). The pre-order campaign starts from today until 4 March, where customers will receive a free Harmon Kardon Onyx Mini worth RM699. They will also be among the first in the world to enjoy the new smartphone, as they can receive their phones from 9 March onwards – one week before the 16 March Malaysian launch.
You can pre-order the Galaxy S9 and S9+ from Samsung’s official pre-order page, where you’ll need to make a RM300 non-refundable deposit – the remaining amount is to be paid when you pick up the device from a Samsung Experience Store of your choice. These stores will also offer 0% installment plans, though different outlets may only accept specific credit cards.
Samsung is also offering a trade-up program for the S9, but the trade-up value for the phones you bring in are…very much lower than their true market value. The full list of accepted devices can be found here.
You can also get the same pre-order deal from various retail partners, including Harvey Norman and Senheng. But, you can also enjoy the pre-order deal from 11street, Shopee, and Lazada, where you could potentially save a bit more with coupons from the platforms.
In Lazada, official pre-order listings are available for all models except the 256GB Galaxy S9+. Here are the official pre-order links:
Galaxy S9 64GB (Midnight Black)
Galaxy S9 64GB (Coral Blue)
Galaxy S9 64GB (Lilac Purple)
Galaxy S9+ 64GB (Midnight Black)

Galaxy S9+ 128GB (Lilac Purple)
Alternatively, Lazada is also offering a separate link for those who prefer to pay the RM300 deposit first. It’s a bit of a hassle, since you’ll essentially be making two transactions (RM300 deposit, and then on 7-8 March Lazada will send an email with a RM300 voucher code for customers to purchase a full-priced unit, before delivery is made on 9 March). But if you prefer, you can make the deposit here for the Galaxy S9, and here for the Galaxy S9+ 64GB and Galaxy S9+ 128GB.
Shopee’s official Samsung store is also offering the same Galaxy S9 models (Galaxy S9 64GB, Galaxy S9+ 64GB, Galaxy S9+ 128GB), and there are also a number of official Galaxy S9 accessories available, including the Alcantara Cover (Galaxy S9/Galaxy S9+), the new Hyperknit Cover (Galaxy S9/Galaxy S9+), ClearView flip cover (Galaxy S9/Galaxy S9+), and the basic Silicone Case (Galaxy S9/Galaxy S9+).
In addition to the retail partners, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will also naturally be available to all major telcos in Malaysia. We’re still compiling the full list of telco bundle plans for the two devices, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, check out our first impressions of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.
