Huawei has renewed the MediaPad line with two tablets. The new Huawei MediaPad M5 introduces an 8.4-inch and a 10.8-inch tablet; both of which feature speakers tuned by Harman Kardon.
Both versions of the MediaPad M5 come with 2K displays and feature 2.5D glass on the front. Huawei hasn’t come forward with many other details about the internals, although the larger of the two is said to come with 4GB RAM and have 64GB of internal storage. All versions of the MediaPad M5 will also feature a fingerprint sensor.
In addition to this, the 10.8-inch MediaPad M5 Pro includes the Huawei M-Pen – a stylus with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity.
To be fair, the MediaPad M5 doesn’t quite feel much different from the MediaPad M3 that was launched in late 2016. Huawei already announced a tablet with a 2K display and speakers tuned by Harman Kardon back then. That said, we expect the M5 to feature the newer Kirin 960 processor that should give it a substantial performance improvement over its predecessor.
The Huawei HUAWEI MediaPad M5 will be available in China, Europe, North America, Asia Pacific and Middle East in spring 2018. No price has been announced for the tablets at this point.
Update: We have learnt that there are technically three versions of the MediaPad M5. The 8.4-inch version ships with a Kirin 960 processor, 4GB RAM, and storage 32GB/64GB/128GB choices. The 10.8-inch versions are split across the MediaPad M5 and M5 Pro. Both share the same internals as the 8.4-inch tablet, although the M5 Pro drops the 32GB storage choice. Thus far, it would seem that the only difference that the Pro has is that it’s sold with the M-Pen.
