As promised, Xiaomi has brought the reduced specification variants of the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus into Malaysia. These feature more or less the same hardware as the current existing models, but alter the amount of memory and storage to provide for different price points.
The new Redmi 5 comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, while the new Redmi 5 Plus ships with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. This is in contrast with the 3GB RAM/32GB storage variants that were previously available.
All this is in addition to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 on the Redmi 5 and the Snapdragon 625 on the Redmi 5 Plus.
Both phones have appeared on the official store on Lazada with all three colours available. Which is nice considering that we were originally stuck with only the Gold available at launch. For reference, the Redmi 5 ships in Black, Blue, and Gold; while the Redmi 5 Plus shares the same three colour variants.
The new Redmi 5 retails for RM499, while the Redmi 5 Plus is selling for RM899. Both are available for purchase from today.
