Twitter wants to combat spamming on its platform, and come 23 March 2018, a new rule banning bulk tweeting will come into effect. The new rule comes after Twitter discovered thousands of Russian troll accounts during the 2016 US Presidential elections.
According to the new rules, apps that utilize Twitter should prohibit users from tweeting “same or substantially similar” content to multiple accounts. Additionally, they also shouldn’t allow these users to “use several accounts to like or retweet a post.” This includes the same users liking the same post or retweet all at the same time.
Twitter will also be updating Tweetdeck to ensure that the platform will also adhere to its guidelines in hopes of eliminating a practice called “tweetdecking”. Basically, the act requires users to tweet out content across multiple popular accounts on their Tweetdeck, at a price.
