Even though the AMD Ryzen desktop APUs were only released to the market last week, their notebook counterpart which is called Ryzen Mobile was launched back in October 2017 after it was announced at Computex 2017. Still featuring the mix of Zen CPU and Vega GPU, the Ryzen Mobile-based notebooks are not yet available in Malaysia for the time being but that might change soon.
This is based on a recent post published by AMD Malaysia on its Facebook page which clearly stated that “Ryzen Mobile is coming soon”. Alongside the teaser, the company is also running a mini contest with Ryzen Mobile (and Chinese New Year) as its theme which further strengthen the original teaser.
However, the teaser didn’t provide any exact details regarding the Ryzen Mobile-based laptops that will be released in Malaysia. That being said, the list of potential models is actually quite small since there are only a handful of Ryzen Mobile laptops around for the time being.
Among them are the Ryzen Mobile iterations of Acer Swift 3, HP Envy x360, and Lenovo Ideapad 720s which were revealed alongside the processors themselves last October. The line-up grew further at CES 2018 last month with the unveiling of the refreshed Acer Nitro 5 as well as the addition of Ryzen Mobile option for the Dell Inspiron 5000 series.
Furthermore, we have yet to see such laptops from ASUS even though its name was mentioned at the chip’s launch announcement and one of AMD’s CES 2018 presentation. While ASUS did released its Ryzen-based laptop in Malaysia recently but the ASUS ROG Strix GL702ZC is equipped with a desktop Ryzen chip instead of a Ryzen Mobile processor.
We are now reaching out to AMD and its OEM partners for further details but given the Chinese New Year holiday season, we don’t expect to receive immediate reply. Nevertheless, we’ll keep you posted once we receive any updates from them.
