AirAsia will be introducing a new self check-in system that uses facial recognition technology. In addition to this, the biometric scanner is also apparently being used to automate the boarding gate procedure.
The Fast Airport Clearance Experience System (FACES) is set to be opened at the Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru. Few details are available at the moment, with the airline only just send out invites to the media. We expect it to happen within the next couple of weeks. Perhaps with the FACES equipped gates opening in time to cater to the Chinese New Year travel period.
AirAsia has been pushing to adopt a more futuristic approach to its operations as of late. The group recently introduced cashless payments through the BigPay e-wallet, and has begun introducing in-flight WiFi on selected flights.
We’re waiting to learn more information about the facial recognition system, as it sounds like it could make getting through the airport so much faster and easier.
