A new update to Samsung’s ISOCELL cameras has been announced. The upcoming camera module will have full HD (1080p) slow-motion video recording, and it may be heading to the Samsung Galaxy S9 flagship.
The new ISOCELL Bright line now comes with a new 3-stack Fast Readout Sensor, which corroborates earlier news. We expect 1080p video recording for slow-motion videos with this new cameras; other manufacturers like Sony currently tops at 720p. There is also the possibility that the new ISOCELL sensor can record 1000fps at lower resolution too.
We first saw the Bright sensors during MWC Shanghai last year. It promises to deliver bright and sharp images with high color fidelity and reduced noise in low light environments thanks to the small 0.9-1.0um pixel size.
The biggest information missing from this report is the duration of the slow-motion capture. Sony can only record for 1/5 of a second for its slow-motion implementation – will Samsung record longer? We will have to wait; Samsung is set to announce the Galaxy S9 family at MWC, and that is just a few weeks away.
