We thought it would be unveiled at MWC 2018, but it seems vivo is ready to introduce its first smartphone with an in-screen fingerprint sensor: the vivo X20 Plus UD. Beyond its Synaptics-made fingerprint sensor, other specifications of the X20 Plus UD are pretty standard for an upper mid-range smartphone.
In fact, aside from the in-screen fingerprint sensor, the X20 Plus UD shares very similar hardware as the vivo X20 Plus. These include a 6.43-inch 2160 x 1080 Super AMOLED FullView Display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM, double the internal storage of the standard X20 Plus at 128GB, and of course, a microSD card slot.
However, there are several changes: the X20 Plus UD comes with a slightly smaller 3,800mAh battery than the X20 Plus’ 3,905mAh cell. In the camera department, the X20 Plus UD features a different camera configuration too: its rear shooters are made up of 24MP + 5MP sensors, while the front-facing camera is a 24MP snapper.
But in the grand scheme of things, the main differentiator between the standard X20 Plus and the X20 Plus UD really only lies in the latter’s in-screen Synaptics fingerprint sensor. This, of course, explains the “UD” moniker in its name – we reckon it stands for “under display.”
At the time of writing, the availability and pricing of the vivo X20 Plus UD have not been revealed yet. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about the phone in the near future, especially concerning its Malaysian availability.
