Grab and oBike have entered into a partnership that will see the bike-sharing service adopt GrabPay, among other things. The two are said to be working on further integration, but have not elaborated on what this entails.
The announcement follows sightings of oBike bicycles bearing Grab branding being transported in Singapore. For the moment, it would appear that the collaboration between the two parties is limited to the city-state; but it wouldn’t be too difficult to believe that it will be extended to the other regions where oBike operates.
A strategic partnership between Grab and oBike is not entirely surprising. Grab is one of the investors in oBike, and is likely trying to leverage on the relationship. Much like what China’s Didi-Chuxing has done with Mobike in its home market.
What is curious is that the sightings in Singapore involve branding for something called Grab Cycle; a service that doesn’t exist at the moment. Neither Grab nor oBike has commented on the matter.
