Xiaomi has updated its Mi Notebook Air with Intel’s 8th Gen Core i5 and i7 processors. This is more of a product refresh with newer hardware, and doesn’t include the newer G-series of processors that sport integrated Radeon graphics.
The refreshed Mi Notebook Air now ships with either the Intel Core i7-8550U or the Intel Core i5-8250U 8th Gen processors. There is 8GB of RAM soldered-on the motherboard, and the 256GB SSD storage should be sufficient for its intended use.
It also receives an upgrade in the graphics department, thanks to the new NVIDIA GeForce MX150 GPU with 2GB of on-board memory. Whether this is worth the effort is rather questionable, seeing that the MX150 has seen less than stellar reviews. Still, it is likely to provide a small bump in graphics capabilities.
The design of the notebook is still the same as the previous models. It is 14.8mm at its thickest point, and weighs in at 1.3KG. Xiaomi claims 9.5 hours of usage with a full charge. Out of the box you get three USB ports – two Type-A USB 3.0, and a single USB Type-C (which is also the power delivery port). A HDMI 1.4 port is also provided to connect to external displays.
Xiaomi is listing the Core i5 model at CNY 5399 (RM 3322) while the price for the Core i7 model is to be announced. Xiaomi is even throwing in a copy of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2016. It would be nice if Xiaomi started selling these outside of China, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
