There looks to be yet another annoying bug spread through text messages. The chaiOS bug looks like a simple GitHub link but, when sent to an Apple device, causes the Messages app to crash – and may also cause the device itself to reboot.
Once the link is sent it will continue to crash the app every time the message thread is opened. The only way to regain control of the conversation is to delete the thread and start over from scratch. Which means that the bug isn’t exactly critical, but it can be extremely annoying to anyone who has to deal with it.
? Effective Power is back, baby!
chaiOS bug:
Text the link below, it will freeze the recipient’s device, and possibly restart it. https://t.co/Ln93XN51Kq⚠️ Do not use it for bad stuff.

thanks to @aaronp613 @garnerlogan65 @lepidusdev @brensalsa for testing!— Abraham Masri (@cheesecakeufo) January 16, 2018
Twitter user Abraham Masri first pointed out the bug; believing that it is related to the “effective power” bug from 2015. For all intents and purposes, the two bugs are the same. Simply crashing the Messages app when the message is sent.
Nobody is sure about the cause of the bug at the moment, seeing that it has just only appeared. We’re sure that people are already looking into the matter, and it’s only a matter of time before a patch is released. Until then, maybe it’s best to not send this particular link to your Apple using friends.
