We may have a glimpse of a future Huawei smartwatch thanks to a filing with the World International Patent Office (WIPO). The patent outlines a gesture-based control scheme that combines a rotating bezel with pressure sensitive zones.
Drawings in the patent show both controls on the Touch panel and Bezels, allowing users to use either to swipe up and down, or zoom in and out. The diagrams also describe allowing separate controls for the thumb and index finger. Curiously, there doesn’t seem to be any additional options detailed. With all the controls seemingly the same as found on any other smartwatch.
That said, the use of the pressure sensors is not entirely detailed. Possibly allowing Huawei to include more contextual menus and options. Something similar to what Apple has been doing with its Force Touch technology.
It’s difficult to say when – or if – this technology will appear on a new product. At the very least, it shows that Huawei is not yet ready to abandon the smartwatch market in the long term. Despite apparent lackluster sales from the market as a whole.
