It’s only been a couple of months since the OnePlus 5T was officially launched, but Pete Lau, the CEO of OnePlus, confirmed that the company’s next flagship smartphone will arrive by the end of Q2 2018. Basically, we can expect the next OnePlus phone to be introduced by June 2018.
In an interview with CNET, Lau also confirmed that OnePlus’ upcoming flagship will be powered by none other than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset. “Of course, there’s no other choice,” Lau was quoted as saying.
If the next OnePlus phone launches in June 2018, it will match the official unveiling of the OnePlus 5, which happened in June 2017. It seems like OnePlus is sticking with its regular product cycle: release a new flagship in the middle of the year, and possibly introduce a slightly upgraded model not long after. Of course, it remains to be seen if the company will do this again for its next flagship.
As far as naming goes, OnePlus isn’t revealing just yet what its next flagship phone will be called. More likely than not, it will be dubbed the OnePlus 6, but it’s worth noting that the company skipped a number with the OnePlus 5 last year – there’s no telling if the same will happen with its next flagship.
Nonetheless, we’ll find out more about OnePlus’ upcoming flagship smartphone as we approach its release date. Said to be launching in late Q2 2018, it’s likely the phone will be revealed in June this year.
