Samsung’s next smartwatch may feature batteries in the strap for longer battery life, if the recent patent filed at the World International Patent Organization is accurate. The new arrangement may see true day-long battery life for a smartwatch.
According to the patent application, the batteries used will be thin and flexible to supplement rather than replace the built-in battery in the watch itself. Despite this, the straps will not be limited to a single material. Samsung’s customers will still be able to choose from multiple materials such as leather or rubber to go with their smartwatch.
Additionally, Samsung may be looking to enhance its rotating bezel control by incorporating a display right into the bezel. The sub-display is described in the patent as showing additional options or menu items when selected. The rotating control was first seen in the Samsung Gear S3.
We may also see the return of the camera on a future Gear product, as the patent shares potential integration with a bevy of modules, including fingerprint scanner, heart rate monitor and a camera.
