Asus Malaysia’s new offerings for January 2018 have appeared for pre-order. Among these are new ROG Strix branded gaming laptops, and the GeForce GTX 1070 version of the super-slim Zephyrus.
At the lower end of the offerings is the ROG Strix SCAR Edition GL703 for RM7999. This mid-range sports a 17.3-inch full HD display. Powering it is an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, 16GB RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB. Storage comes in the form of a 256GB SSD and a 1TB SATA HDD.
Moving up the price scale is the ROG Strix SCAR Edition GL503 which features a 15.6-inch FHD display. Inside is the same Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor and 16GB RAM, only this time it packs a GeForce GTX 1070 8GB. Internal storage comes in the same setup as the GL703; which is about standard for most gaming laptops these days. The GL503 is on pre-order for RM9299.
The 17.3-inch ROG Strix SCAR G703 rounds out the line. A whopping RM19999 gets you an Intel Core i7-7820HK processor with 32GB RAM. The display comes in the 4K variety; making the most of the GeForce GTX 1080 8GB graphics card. Rounding out the specifications is a 512GB SSD and 1TB HDD.
Make no mistake, the G703 is one big gaming laptop and brings the kind of hardware that makes it worth the money. Especially with that desktop grade unlocked Intel processor.
Also on pre-order is the Asus ROG Zephyrus with GTX 1070 Max-Q. The GTX 1080 version of the laptop has technically already arrived in Malaysia; although the official Asus store on Lazada seems to be including it in the pre-order. In this case, there’s little to choose between the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 versions. Both share similar specifications (aside from the graphics cards). We expect that the GTX 1070 version will output less heat, but that’s only speculation at this point.
It should be noted that these pre-orders claim to be delivered by 31 December 2017; which is currently believed to be wishful thinking on the part of the distributors. We have confirmed that the units are not yet being shipped and have not yet been told when they will become available.
