Based on a recent entry to SIRIM’s database, another new Xiaomi device has passed the national certifications process. Shown as “MDG1” on the database, the device is likely to be the new Redmi 5.
Launched in China earlier this month, Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are the first ever 18:9 devices to come from Xiaomi’s Redmi series which is aimed at the budget-conscious crowd. Equipped with 5.7-inch HD+ display, the Redmi 5 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450.
The phone comes in two memory and internal storage options: 2GB RAM and 16GB storage as well as 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. Other than that, the Redmi 5 is also equipped with a 12MP PDAF rear camera, and 5MP front camera. Rounding up its specifications is a 3,300mAh battery.
Given the fact that Redmi 5 Plus has appeared on SIRIM’s database before, we might be looking at two new phones from Xiaomi Malaysia soon. Hope the company wouldn’t take too long to make the official announcement regarding the status of both devices for our market.
