The Xiaomi Mi A1 is quite a compelling, budget-friendly mid-range smartphone, and it is receiving a long overdue feature. With Android 8.0 Oreo beta, the Mi A1 will finally support fast charging.
This was confirmed by India-based technology blog Telecomtalk, which tested the Mi A1’s charging rate once it’s been updated to the beta version of Android 8.0. In the site’s testing, the Mi A1 charges from zero to 100% in 92 minutes; before the Oreo update, it took about two hours instead. However, it’s worth noting that Telecomtalk used the OnePlus 5T’s charger during the test.
Aside from fast charging, Android 8.0 brings a number of improvements to the Mi A1 too. These include Picture-in-picture Mode, notification channels, and better background process management. Basically, improvements you’d expect with Android Oreo.
As the Mi A1 is an Android One device, it runs on stock Android with very minimal bloatware – something Android purists will definitely appreciate. Xiaomi promised that the Mi A1 will be updated to Oreo by the end of the year, and if the beta version doesn’t have any major hiccup, we imagine the update will be widely rolled out soon.
Of course, software alone isn’t the only thing that makes the Xiaomi Mi A1 a compelling budget smartphone. If you’d like to learn more about it, check out our hands on of the device.
