Xiaomi may be preparing to cross a very delicate line with the upcoming Mi Max 3. Rumours have been spreading that the company wants to use a 7-inch display on the smartphone, making it less of a phone and directly in tablet territory.
Larger smartphones have long blurred the distinction between smartphone and tablet; giving rise to the phablet. However, in these cases the display size usually hovered closer to 6-inches.
Xiaomi is expected to continue the of using the popular 18:9 screen aspect ratio for the Mi Max 3, along with a minimal bezel design to minimise the size of the phone itself. Early reports claim that Xiaomi will be using a 1080+ panel, so no crazy high resolution here.
Two variants are speculated to be on offer when the phone is launched – one will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630, while the other will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. Thanks to the processors Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology will be built-in; the phone will need it as the rumoured battery capacity will be a whopping 5,500mAh.
No other specifications have been shared, although we do hope that Xiaomi will ship this phone with Android Oreo out of the box. Expected launch range will be sometime in the first quarter of 2018, although this is not yet set in stone.
