Vainglory returns to its “home country” today as the Razer 2017 Vainglory World Championships kicks off in Singapore. From the early days of the open beta released to Singaporeans in 2014 to the finals taking place in Kallang Theatre, the MOBA mobile game has certainly come a long way.
The four-day tournament consists of the top 12 teams from around the world, who have conquered many others on their way to be the select dozen in Singapore. This tournament is also unique in the sense that the winners of this tournament will be the last title holder of the Vainglory World Championship.
That’s because on Sunday, before the grand finals, the company will finally reveal the game’s future to the world: a highly anticipated 5v5 game mode, which developers Super Evil Megacorp has been teasing for quite some time now.’
As such, this year’s tournament brings greater significance to the 12 teams, all hoping to get their names etched in history. Local fans will be rooting for all-Singaporean team Team Impunity, as well as Indonesian neighbours Team Elite8, as they take on prestigious esports franchises such as Cloud9, Team SoloMid, and G2 Esports to take home the world champion title and a prize pool of over $140,000 (about RM572,000).
Those who wish to check out the action need not travel all the way down to Singapore, as Super Evil Megacorp has partnered with various broadcast platforms to catch the tournament live. You can watch the tournament progress on Vainglory’s Twitch and YouTube channels, as well as on Astro’s eGG Network.
