UK-based Planet Computers is creating a small and compact productivity device inspired by a classic personal digital assistant, or PDA. The Gemini is a throwback device that lies somewhere between a laptop and a tablet.

A 5.7-inch QHD touch screen dominates the front of the device, sporting the popular 18:9 aspect ratio. Underneath the metal build is a deca-core processor from MediaTek with a removable 4220mAh battery that should last the device through the whole day. Rounding out the specifications are 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

Like the PDAs of old, the Gemini has a full QWERTY keyboard set in landscape mode; allowing for two-handed use, as well as touch-typing on a flat surface. Planet Computers also built an ingenious hinge that props up the whole device, giving it a more comfortable angle when using on a table or plane tray-table.

Gemini will be made available in two models – 4G LTE and WiFi-only. The former will support voice calls and mobile broadband connectivity. What’s more, there are two USB Type-C ports with support for video out and USB OTG, so you can connect this to a large screen for presentations or multimedia playback.

Planet Computers is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to fund the production of the Gemini with pledges starting from US$ 299 (RM 1,219). Notable, the company has already raised close to $1 million in funding; so there’s no danger of this particular product failing to meet its original $200,000 goal.
