There are several QR-based payment solutions have started to make their appearance in Malaysia as of late. Soon, the scene will be joined by Maybank as the bank is apparently working to launch its own take on the solution according to the initial information that we’ve received from industry sources.
Called Maybank QR Pay, the new solution will be integrated directly into Maybank2U app. At the same time, users will then be able to utilize the funds in their Maybank account to make payment.
Hence, there is no need for users to top-up credit into a dedicated payment account as per some of the digital wallet implementation out there. Our sources have informed us that the public roll out for Maybank QR Pay has been planned to take place in January 2018.
This is indeed an interesting development from Maybank who only recently has just added facial and voice recognition feature into Maybank2U app. Additionally, the roll out of Maybank QR Pay could be the catalyst to accelerate cashless payment system in the country given Maybank status as the biggest bank in the country.
