As teased by the company before, Xiaomi today has officially launched the brand new Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones. They are not only the latest offerings from the company but also served as the newest additions to the Xiaomi’s growing number of devices that are equipped with 18:9 full-screen display.
Of course, their screen sizes are not equal to each other as the Redmi 5 carries 5.7-inch HD+ display while Redmi 5 Plus features a larger 5.99-inch FHD+ display. Additionally, both devices are powered by different processors since the lower-end Redmi 5 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 as opposed to Redmi 5 Plus’ Snapdragon 625.
Another factor that differentiate both devices are their battery capacity. Specifically, Xiaomi has installed a 3300mAh battery into Redmi 5 while the Redmi 5 Plus features a larger 4000mAh battery.
Interestingly, they do feature the same camera setup. On their back is a 12MP PDAF camera with pixel size of 1.25μm while on the front is another 5MP camera. At the same time, both Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus still feature soft-light for their front cameras.
The Redmi 5 with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage is priced CNY 799 (about RM 494) while the 3GB/32GB variant will go CNY 899 (about RM 556). Similarly, Redmi 5 Plus will also be released in two memory/storage options including the 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB which are priced CNY 999 (about RM 618) and CNY 1299 (about RM 803) respectively.
To be made available in China on 12 December, it is not known at the moment whether these new Redmi phones will be released in Malaysia any time soon. Nevertheless, it is possible that we might see at least one of them soon since Redmi 5 Plus has went through SIRIM’s certifications process recently. So, stay tuned.
