DxO is finally ready to launch the Android version of its DxO add-on camera. The original was released for the iPhone about two years ago, which makes this a surprisingly long wait. Interestingly, DxO has elected to use a USB Type-C connector as an interface, so only modern smartphones may apply.
As a recap, the DxO One camera is a 1-inch 20-megapixel Sony lens rated at f/1.8 aperture. It has manual exposure controls, a shutter speed of up to 1/8000 of a second, and is capable of up to 51200 ISO. It will also shoot images in RAW, although the software on the camera is not capable of processing the image itself.
Right now the add-on is officially supported for a select number of devices. Supported mobile phones includes the HTC U11, Huawei Mate 9, Huawei P10, LG G6, LG V20, Moto Z, Nexus 5X, Nokia 8, Nubia Z11 mini, Samsung Galaxy A5 2017, Samsung Note 8, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Huawei Honor 9.
It is now on preorder on DxO’s website for US$499 (RM2000). With the preorder, DxO is throwing in the device itself, a waterproof case and the DxO PhotoLab photo editing software – the last two are worth US$260 (RM 1040) together.
