A few days ago, we’ve written an article regarding the security vulnerabilities affecting many Intel processors. You can read more on this issue here. In response to this, Gigabyte has recently released a new BIOS update for its motherboards. Other motherboard manufacturers have not released their BIOS update at the time of writing.
If you have an Gigabyte-based system, we’d suggest you head on over to Gigabyte’s official website (respective motherboard product page) to download the aforementioned BIOS update as soon as possible. That said, do keep in mind that the BIOS update is currently only compatible with Gigabyte’s Z370 and Z200-series motherboards. We do expect the company to release updates for “older” motherboards in the near future.
For those who are not aware, the vulnerabilities that’s affecting Intel’s processors may allow unauthorised access to its Management Engine (ME) and Trusted Execution Engines – both of which are very important to maintain the stability of one’s system. Despite this, as mentioned in our previous articles, Intel-based Mac systems are not affected by this issue.
Gigabyte has stated that it is “committed to ensuring the quality and service of our motherboards. Any issues that affect the user’s experience with our products will be addressed with the utmost concern”, hence the prompt release of its BIOS update. Hopefully, other motherboard manufactures will soon release their security updates as well.
