A list of Samsung smartphones set to receive Android Oreo has been leaked on Weibo. The list covers a number of smartphones going back two years, which backs an earlier report that Samsung is looking to expand its update cycle.
In the leaked list, 36 models are stated to receive the Oreo update; this ranges from the budget J-series to the flagship Note-series. In an unsurprising move, this year’s Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ and the Galaxy Note 8 will be getting the updates.
What is interesting is the inclusion of the Galaxy S6 family and the Galaxy Note 5; phones dating back to 2015. Also in the list are mid-range models such as the Galaxy A series and Galaxy C series as well as several Galaxy Tab tablets. Samsung doesn’t usually update these models.
This is excellent news for older Samsung phone owners as they are assured of at least getting the latest Android 8.0 Oreo on their smartphones. The update is expected to head to the phones by early 2018. The Weibo poster has a good track record for sharing verified news, but as per usual, take this news with a grain of salt.
