If you’ve ever wondered how you’d match up against lightsaber-wielding enemies, or partake in a game of Holochess, Lenovo has some good news for you. The company has announced the Malaysian availability of the Star Wars: Jedi Challenges AR game bundle, which includes the Lenovo Mirage AR headset.
The set consists of the headset, a tracking beacon, and a super cool lightsaber controller. The system works very similarly to the PlayStation Move, where the tracking beacon and lightsabre lights serve as “points” with which the app can triangulate and project the AR elements to.
Meanwhile, the Mirage AR headset is slightly different from the usual headsets in the market. Because it’s an AR (and not VR) headset, the phone tray is located above the users’ eyes and not directly in front. Mirrors within the headset project the animation from the phone onto the lens, resulting in a more than competent AR experience.
Star Wars: Jedi Challenges is in itself an app consisting of three mini games: lightsaber battles, holochess, and strategic combat. Of the three, the lightsaber battles are obviously the most fun, giving you a virtual (and yet somewhat realistic-looking) lightsaber to duel with Stormtroopers and popular villains such as Darth Maul and Darth Vader, dodging and blocking their attacks.
Fans of the series will naturally know what Holochess is, and is recreated quite faithfully in Star Wars: Jedi Challenges. Finally, witness epic battles take place in Strategic Combat, an RTS tower-defence style game.
The Star Wars: Jedi Challenges bundle consists of the headset, lightsaber controller, tracking beacon, and various cables to charge the phone and controller with. It is currently available exclusively in Lenovo’s new online store, and retails for RM1,168.
