Microsoft has announced a new Minecraft based activity for the Hour of Code campaign. The Hero’s Journey, the tutorial introduces a new character in the form of The Agent; who happens to resemble a miniature iron golem.
Hour of Code is an initiative from Code.org that aims to encourage students around the world to learn coding. Microsoft itself has been supporting the campaign for the past three years, and is introducing 10 new challenges this year. This is also the first year where the entire hour-long tutorial can be imported to Minecraft Education Edition.
This year, the Hour of Code is scheduled to take place between 4 and 10 December. It technically only takes an hour to complete any of the tutorials, with activities provided by partners like Microsoft, Amazon, Apple, and Google.
Malaysian students are not being left out of the Hour of Code, as Microsoft has already partnered with several schools in the country to deploy Minecraft as a teaching aid. The results of this were already seen with students from MRSM Tun Mohammad Fuad Stephens, Sandakan. These – mostly – underprivileged students quickly adapted to the new teaching tools and have been contributing their work to the Climate Action Project; an online movement to raise awareness on climate change.
