Two of Malaysia’s largest banks are making it easier for Malaysians to shop online come midnight (11 November) for the biggest online shopping event this year. Maybank and CIMB Bank have both rescheduled their maintenance downtimes to accommodate for the 11 November sales.
Online banking activities, including credit card use, are usually halted as banks across Malaysia has a scheduled maintenance starting from 12am to 12.45am daily. But with the major e-commerce platforms out in full force for 11/11 – not to mention Tmall also enticing Malaysians – the banks are doing their part to ensure Malaysians can use their credit cards and online banking services to make payments for 11/11.
Maybank will be pushing forward its maintenance downtime to 11.30pm to 11.59pm tonight (10 November), while CIMB Bank will do its maintenance from 11.40pm to 12am.
Interestingly, RHB Bank, Public Bank, Affin Bank, and Hong Leong Bank did not disclose any plans to move their maintenance times.
In any case, Maybank and CIMB Bank customers should still face some traffic when paying for items on 11 November. Lazada CEO Hans-Peter Ressel has already predicted that 20% of Malaysians will be accessing Lazada’s website or app tomorrow, so the payment gateways could still be congested.
