Well that was fast. Intel has announced that Raja Koduri, former chief of Radeon Technologies Group, will be joining the blue company soon. Koduri will be joining Intel as the chief architect and senior vice president of the company’s newly formed “Core and Visual Computing Group.” Intel stated that Koduri will official begin his role at Intel from December onwards.
Intel’s Core and Visual Computing Group is a new division within the company that will be in charge of spearheading its efforts in making integrated graphics and high-end discrete graphics solutions for the PC market. This, of course, means that Koduri will most likely be involved in the development of Intel’s upcoming processors that’ll come with AMD graphics technologies.
Despite this, most AMD and Radeon diehards will most likely not take this announcement lightly. Koduri is joining a rival company after all. That said, given his vast experience in the graphics market and Intel’s “fat” R&D budget, the offer was probably simply too good to turn down. Of course, being able to obtain a talent like Koduri will most definitely bode well for Intel in the foreseeable future.
Those aside, it’ll be interesting to see what the Intel Core and Visual Computing Group will come up with in the coming years. Will the presence of a third player in the high-end graphics market affect Radeon and Nvidia? Only time will tell.
