Vivo may just be the first company to create a full-screen smartphone that features an all-screen display and the ultrasonic Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensor. The Vivo Xplay 7 will be heading to store shelves by 2018 if the reports are true.
According to a Weibo post seen online, Vivo is in the midst of finalising its 2018 flagship, which will feature the expansive screen and under-glass ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensor was first demoed during MWC Shanghai 2017, where we managed to have a hands-on with the technology.
Vivo is boasting a “100% screen” on the front of the device, but we reckon it is a bit less, as there are still cutouts for the front selfie camera and other related sensors for smartphone operations. Still, having an essentially full-screen display on a phone is quite incredible.
What is more incredible are the reported specs of the Xplay 7. Vivo’s presentation slides show that the phone will be using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. The upcoming chipset will be paired with 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB of storage, as well as a new Sony image sensor, the IMX401. The dual-camera setup on the Xplay 7 also promises 4x zoom – an incredible feat if the zoom is optical rather than digital.
Take everything here with a grain of salt as 2018 is still a few months away. However, there is a big possibility that the Xplay 7 may be demoed or even launched during MWC 2018.
