The Samsung Galaxy S8 devices as well as the Note 8 are very, very good smartphones, but one of the main qualms consumers have with these smartphones is the position of their fingerprint sensors. Well, it may not be an issue with the upcoming Galaxy S9: it might just sport a front-facing fingerprint sensor.
Just recently, Samsung filed for a patent with KIPRIS, South Korea’s trademarking organisation. The patent details a fingerprint sensor placed on the front of the device, right below the display.
Looking at the patent, it’s possible that Samsung will opt to have a recessed area for the fingerprint sensor. In fact, the Galaxy S9 may just have a similar notch as the iPhone X – or even the Essential Phone – on the bottom of the display to make space for the sensor.
If this is the case, we imagine not many consumers will be thrilled. While a front-facing fingerprint sensor will definitely be an improvement over the Galaxy S8’s awkward sensor placement, the Galaxy S9’s display might not be as sleek-looking with a notch at the bottom.
Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see if the Samsung Galaxy S9 will indeed come with a fingerprint sensor on the front of the phone. Hopefully, the sleek design of the Galaxy S8 will be reflected on the Galaxy S9 too.
