Despite the niche popularity of e-books, Amazon has launched another new Kindle model. The new Kindle Oasis is an update from the 2016 model – now with an all-metal body and waterproof build.
The Oasis has a tapered body, making holding the e-book reader more comfortable for longer periods of time. Thanks to the all-metal back, it has a more premium feel than previous models.
The biggest new feature on the Oasis is its IPX8 rating. This means that the new Oasis is waterproof. Yes, you can now read your favourite e-book at the pool or beach, without worrying about your Kindle getting damaged from splashes.
Another new feature with the Oasis is Audbile integration through a built-in app. There are no built-in speakers, but users can stream the audiobook through Bluetooth to wireless speakers or Bluetooth headsets.
Other features includes physical page-turn buttons, microUSB for charging and built-in LED backlight for low-light reading.
The Kindle Oasis will be shipping by end October from $250 (about RM1,055) for the 8GB ad-supported model to $350 (about RM1,475) for the 32GB cellular model.
