True to what the company has stated two weeks ago, the new firmware update for D-Link DIR-850L router is now available for TM’s customers. While TM itself has yet to make any official announcement regarding it, the update can be downloaded immediately from D-Link Malaysia’s official website.
Unlike the firmware update for the retail version that D-Link uploaded two weeks ago, there is only one firmware that users need to apply on their router. The step-by-step guide which is inclusive of photos is available alongside the firmware and its release note inside the zip file.
In general, the new firmware is designed to fix the issues that was highlighted by security researcher Pierre Kim last month. There is one noticeable addition though: the firmware will also add the “@unifi” postfix on the router’s SSID.
The postfix is not exactly out of ordinary since UniFi customers would already noticed it when the router was first activated at their home or office by TM installers. Most users that are savvy enough probably changed their Wi-Fi SSID which made us wonder if this update would impact their custom SSID or otherwise.
Well then, let us know your thoughts on the new firmware if you decide to install it on your TM-supplied D-Link DIR-850L router.
