Running out of storage can be a problem – especially for professionals. Seagate sees a solution with the Seagate BarraCuda Pro 12TB hard drive – the largest and fastest disk drive on the market currently.
“The new 7200rpm 12TB BarraCuda Pro is the fastest, highest-capacity and most reliable hard drive for desktop computing available on the market today,” according to Seagate. A recent study by IDC and Seagate states that data creation will increase to a total of 163 zettabytes (ZB) by 2025. A ZB is around 1,074,000,000 TB; so that is a lot of data and large storage is sorely needed by then.
Network Attached Storage (NAS) users meanwhile can look forward to the IronWolf and IronWolf Pro hard drives. Also running at 12TB, the two professional-grade disks support Seagate’s IronWolf Health Management software. It is in turn supported by major NAS makers – Synology, QNAP and ASUSTOR to name a few.
Transfer speeds will be blazing fast, as the BarraCuda Pro supports sustained data transfer rates of 250MB/s and burst data speeds up to 6Gb/s. The IronWolf drive meanwhile supports sustained data transfer rate of 210MB/s and the IronWolf Pro 12TB has a sustained transfer rate of 250MB/s.
It is now available globally, but so far it is not yet available in Malaysia.
