Japan Display is hoping that it can replace Samsung in supplying OLED displays for Apple, and its aiming to raise $900 million for its OLED production with new technology. The company is said to have new cost effective technology for mass producing OLED panels.
OLED panels are gaining popularity due to it being able to produce more vibrant and saturated colours that LCD panels as well as true blacks. Not to mention being a lot more power-efficient as well.
JOLED, Japan Display’s affiliate, has been working towards using this new technology to start the mass production for the OLED panels. Its been reported that it has been approaching dozens of investors which includes Sony Corp and Canon Inc for funds.
South Korean tech giant LG has also been increasing its own production of OLED panels and has fitted its latest flagship with its own P-OLED panel. Most probably due to the rising popularity of OLED panels.
Needless to say, we all know that Samsung is the one benefiting the most from the iPhone X sales. It will be interesting to see a new competitor stepping into the display making scene and show what it can offer to this ever growing tech industry.
