About a month ago we reported that Blackberry is readying its first waterproof phone; which we assumed was the Blackberry Krypton. Well, Evan Blass has shared what looks to be a final render of the phone, now called the Blackberry Motion.
Naming the new phone Motion is an interesting callback to the original name of Blackberry – Research In Motion. As a recap, the phone will not be an upgrade to the DTEK 60, rather it will be a new model. It will (presumably) have waterproofing, a large display and all the hallmarks of previous TCL-build Blackberry devices – sans the QWERTY keyboard.
The front will now house the fingerprint scanner – which looks to have the Blackberry logo embedded on it. Unlike recent flagships, this phone will come with a 3.5mm jack. The convenience key on the side is also present as well in this model.
Unfortunately @evleaks did not share any specifications of the phone – which we suspect will be launched sometime this quarter. Rumours has it that the phone may ship with the same internals as the Blackberry KeyOne – Snapdragon 625, 4GB of RAM, up to 64GB of storage.
The end of the year is looming soon, so we may see the Blackberry Motion launched by then. While Blackberry phones lately has been good, the market has gone bigger with more choices – so only time will tell if this model will find success in the hands of the consumer.
