Google has announced a smaller version of its home assistant in the Google Home Mini. It’s practically the same as the existing Google Home, albeit in a much smaller shell. A shell that happens to be completely encased in a custom made fabric.
The Google Home Mini incorporates the same Google Assistant. Including the expanded features like Google’s new Voice Match feature for multi-user operations. It also has a touch surface for music controls; despite lacking the solid surface that people are used to.
Google’s presentation took quite a bit of time on the fabric. Informing viewers of the amount of time and effort that went into the design. Saying that it took 157 tries to get even one colour right. Mostly because it would have to allow the LED indicator lights to shine through the material without looking weird.
Naturally, the Google Home Mini is also a speaker. Capable of projecting sounds in a 360-degree arc.
The Google Home Mini is set to be sold for $49 in the US. It goes on pre-order in the US today, with a full release set for 19 October. Google will eventually bring the device to all seven countries where the Google Home is officially available.
