It doesn’t matter if you buy a Samsung Galaxy S8 or the upcoming iPhone X, it looks like Samsung will still be a winner. According to research, Samsung will earn about US$110 for every iPhone X sold, and will earn more in revenue from making parts for the iPhone X than from its very own Galaxy S8.
So, why will Samsung earn so much from iPhone X sales? According to a research from Counterpoint Technology Market Research conducted for the Wall Street Journal, Samsung is the only manufacturer for the new OLED screen on the iPhone X, the most expensive part of the phone. On top of that, the company also makes batteries and capacitors for the iPhone X.
The report also predicts that Apple will sell 130 million iPhone X units through the summer of 2019, giving Samsung about US$4 billion more in revenue for making parts for the iPhone X than the Galaxy S8.
Counterpoint expects Apple will sell 130 million iPhone X units, earning Samsung $110 on each through the summer of 2019, while Galaxy S8’s global sales are expected to be 50 million, earning Samsung $202 each from components such as displays and chips in its first 20 months of sales.
