The promise made by HMD is real – Nokia has announced that its range of phones will be getting Android Oreo by the end of 2017. The company also said Nokia phones will be getting Android P when it arrives sometime next year.
The phones in question – Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 arrived in Malaysia a few months ago. Nokia is running a pure Android experience, hence why it is possible to achieve fast rollout of new operating systems by Google.
Out of the box the phones gets Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and according to HMD, the phones will be receiving Android 8.0 Oreo update by the end of the year. This is on top of the monthly updates and security patches.
Even the recently launched Nokia 8 will be getting the Oreo update, as Juho Sarvikas, Chief Production Officer at HMD Global, confirmed on Twitter.
For those who are looking for great phones with fast updates from Google – you now have choices apart from Google’s Pixel line. Another phone that is also getting fast updates is the Xiaomi Mi A1, which runs Android One.
